Can Sudowrite write erotica in 2026?

Yes, with the right model. Older reviews that say Sudowrite refuses sex scenes were written before its Muse model came out.

Muse
Sudowrite's own fiction model, launched in March 2025 and now the default for drafting. Sudowrite says it writes mature and explicit scenes without filters or jailbreaks.
Other models
Sudowrite also lets you pick models from other AI companies. Those follow their own rules, and some still soften or refuse sex scenes.
Terms
Sudowrite's terms ban using it "for any obscene or immoral purpose" and don't say what that covers.
In practice
Sudowrite can write the scene inside your novel. But it is a tool for authors first, and explicit fiction is one thing it can do, not what the product is built around.

Where Sudowrite is the better choice

Sudowrite is one of the best tools for novelists. For these jobs, it beats RedQuill.

  1. Polishing your own prose. Highlight a line and Describe adds sensory detail, Rewrite tries it a new way, and Expand slows a moment down. RedQuill can rewrite a paragraph from a plain-words request, but it has fewer line tools.
  2. Editor-style feedback. On Professional and Max, Sudowrite gives margin notes on a scene, chapter or whole book, like a developmental or line editor.
  3. Planning a whole book. The Story Bible holds your synopsis, outline, characters and world, and Series Folder shares them across books.
  4. Matching your voice. Give it samples of your writing and it tries to match your style, which helps if you publish under a pen name.
  5. Choice of models. Muse and Ballad are Sudowrite's own fiction models, and you can switch to dozens of others.

Where RedQuill is the better choice

RedQuill is built for one thing: adult stories you can write, play and read without setting anything up first.

It's built for explicit stories

RedQuill exists for adult fiction, so explicit scenes aren't a side feature or a model you have to switch to. Describe what you want, including kinks and power dynamics, within our content guidelines. Those rules say plainly what is allowed, so you are not guessing what "obscene" means. The spicy level control sets how far each story goes.

One line becomes a full chapter

Type "my rival and I get snowed in at a ski lodge" and RedQuill writes a full first chapter in under a minute. You don't need an outline, a Story Bible or an opening scene. Then continue chapter by chapter, steer the next scene in plain words, edit any paragraph, or fork the story to try another direction without losing the original. You can also illustrate any passage to add an AI picture inline.

Your characters carry across stories

Save a character once (looks, personality, history, how they talk) and reuse them in any story. Each story also keeps a Lorebook, so chapter 12 still remembers what happened in chapter 2. Learn more in Characters 101.

You can step into the story

Roleplay mode drops you into any chapter as a character. The AI narrates the world and plays everyone else in the scene. Type what you do or say, or let the story move on its own. A Cast panel tracks where everyone is, what they're wearing, their mood and what they're secretly thinking.

There's a library to read

Sudowrite is a private writing desk. RedQuill is also a reading platform: thousands of public stories are free to read on Discover, and you can fork any of them into your own version. Your own stories stay private unless you publish them.
