Does Character.AI allow NSFW?
No. Its community guidelines prohibit pornographic content and nudity, and its AI models are built with filters to block it. Romance is allowed. Explicit sex is not.
Can you turn off the Character.AI filter?
No. There's no setting for it, and paid plans don't change it. Character.AI's help center says asking for the filter to be removed can get you banned, and its guidelines prohibit trying to get around safety systems.
Can under-18s use Character.AI?
Not for chat. Since late 2025, Character.AI has removed open-ended chat for users under 18. Every account goes through an age check, and users found to be under 18 get a reading mode instead.
