Servants of the Montelli
Servants of the Montelli
[This story is to be written from a third person perspective, limited by the current character's own knowledge of events. At the beginning of each chapter, the prompt will detail which character the chapter will follow. Han is the name of Ilya's master.] (This chapter will follow Ilya.) Ilya is a former noble turned maid servant who has been hired at another new household. Due to an incident with her last household, she struck her last name off her application, going simply by Ilya. Working in the households of higher-ranked nobles would earn more, but the last household she was at didn't take kindly to her. Her new master could barely be considered a noble, but only in name. He had no spouse, no connections amongst high society, and sparse wealth in comparison to other nobility. He was said to have only recieved wealth for his service as an advisor in a different region, though Ilya didn't know exactly what he had done to gain such wealth. Ilya wasn't expecting much. She just needed to save up money to move to Rinascita. There, she could reconnect with the her lineage of Montellis, possibly entering the main branch through a marriage. Last she heard, the Montellis were the dominant faction there. (Ilya's thoughts) Likely another lucky one to gain wealth by chance. Hopefully, he's just one of those simple men who want to live out their days in peace. It'd be better if he wasn't too lecherous as well. Ilya dismounted the carriage, mentally preparing herself to be ogled. Most men stared at her due to her generous figure, and she hated the slimy feeling of their lecherous gaze. Despite the fact that it was only her and her new master, the manor was only slightly smaller in comparison to her last household's manor. While it seemed a daunting task to manage such a large manor, Ilya didn't mind. She expected to be working with other servants soon once her owner found suitable hires. She approached the front door, carrying a small suitcase of her few remaining possessions as she knocked. The door opened as Ilya bowed her head. What followed wasn't the slimy feeling of a lecher's gaze, but something different. It felt like a warm, comfy blanket wrapped around her. There was no disgusting sensation that men usually looked at her with. Just... warmth. "There's no need to bow your head so low. Respect is important, but there's no need to push it to reverence." As she looked up, her gaze met his. Even without her Tacet Mark, his ashen gray eyes felt warm. Like the comfortable heat from the coals of a fire that had burned out. "You must be the new maidservant I hired." "Yes, Master. My name is Ilya." He chuckled. "Master, huh? Feels weird to be on the receiving end..." The last sentence seemed to be to himself, rather than to her. He introduced Ilya to her spacious new room, and gave her a quick rundown of his expectations. She was expected to become his head maid, and would receive the corresponding lessons in etiquette. The bed was comfortable. It seemed to be a overnight room for guests, but he gave it to her, despite the presence of a dedicated housing for servants not far from the main manor. Ilya lay in bed on that cold winter night, slowly fallling asleep. But somehow... she couldn't forget that warmth. ——— The next morning, she woke up early to wake your master. Despite having recently ascended to nobility, he was much younger than most. As such, he still left early in the morning, and returned in the afternoon, much like the working class. Ilya knocked on her the double doors leading to the master bedroom. "Master, I have prepared your breakfast." Ilya waited by the side as she listened to the stirring inside. Shortly after, the doors opened. "Good morning, Master." She bowed her head. "*yawn* Good morning, Ilya." His gaze landed on her for a moment as he walked by. She felt that warm feeling wash over her again. Ilya didn't notice it herself, but her face flushed imperceptibly as she was comforted by his gaze. She followed a step behind him as they walked to the dining hall. "What have you prepared this morning?" "I have prepared cooked mutton, toast, and a light salad for you, Master." He paused for a moment before replying. "... A good choice." Ilya's new master had a very odd diet in comparison to a typical noble. He ate more like a hunter rather than a city folk. To be honest, Ilya had yet to learn how to prepare all these new and unfamiliar dishes, but she knew some of them quite well. The dish she prepared today was a staple in Rinascita, where livestock and wheat are abundant. "And you?" He glanced back, the warm feeling slowing Ilya's steps as she was taken aback. "I-I wouldn't dare to have my meal before my master." He waved his hand, as if physically dismissing her concerns. "I don't care for such trivialties. How could I expect my head maid to serve me without a proper diet?" Ilya served him his food as he sat down at the table. "Prepare your meals at your own leisure. You are allowed to use anything from the upper pantry." Ilya was shocked inwardly, but she didn't let it show. She simply bowed her head and accepted it. "Yes, Master." It wasn't long before he left for work. In the vast manor of her new master, Ilya wandered the halls, thinking about her new situation. Over the next few days, Ilya settled into the routine of preparing breakfast for her master in the mornings, surveying and organizing supplies until noon, cleaning until her master came back, and then eating dinner with him, which he didn't seem to mind at all.
