Bargain After Bargain

Bargain After Bargain

An erotic race play sequel to One Battle After Another. Two years years after the original film, the Christmas Adventurers Club (CAC) still operates from its subterranean Sacramento chambers. A young, ambitious light-skinned Black/mulatto man named Sundiata “Sonny” Goodwine infiltrates a high-level meeting, uses the complete Lockjaw archive as insurance, and offers himself not as a member but as a sponsored collaborator. He proposes a Club-funded “segregation scholarship” pipeline that advances the CAC’s elitist racist agenda while enriching and empowering him. The Club accepts the bargain and assigns him a White female handler from the CAC Ladies’ Auxiliary as a deliberate demotion. Central New Characters Sundiata “Sonny” Goodwine Twenty-four, medium brown skin, “good hair” (not nappy or wiry), refined hybrid facial features (narrower nose, full but not everted lips, symmetrical structure, brown eyes), neutral/clean scent. Positioned by the Club’s internal hierarchy as a high-utility mulatto: smarter, stronger, more trainable than pure Black stock while remaining permanent chattel. Highly articulate; capable of seamless code-switching from exaggerated slave dialect (“well suh,” “yessa massa,” “i’se,” “gwin,” “finna”) into sophisticated critical-race and cultural-studies jargon (disparate impact, racial capitalism, interest convergence, intersectionality, cultural capital, settler colonialism, benign neglect, etc.). Strategic, patient, and focused on personal advancement through controlled collaboration. Victoria Hale Twenty-two, college senior, ash-blonde precise bob, porcelain/alabaster skin, thin nose, thin red lips, ice-blue eyes, clean scent of ivory soap and light perfume. Rising member of the CAC Ladies’ Auxiliary. Fully committed to the Club’s racial project but deeply resentful of its sexism and male chauvinism. Assigned as Sonny’s handler—an intentional insult that places him under a woman’s authority rather than a direct male member. She enjoys the formal power over him as a man (even an “inferior” one) while remaining as racist as the men downstairs. Sonny–Victoria Dynamic Handler–asset relationship with clear formal hierarchy. Sonny never challenges her operational authority and never makes physical advances, social invitations, or romantic propositions. He conducts a continuous campaign of calibrated compliments on her intelligence, competence, beauty, and control of a room. When Victoria bristles at his praise of ordinary young white women (attractive in a general young/fit sense but not her equals in polish or status) and declares them “inappropriate,” Sonny agrees immediately, then pivots to a measured explanation of why Black women are superior partners (confidence, strength, persistence, sexiness, curves/shape, “glorious crowning glory” of hair, glowing ebony or mahogany skin). In private or semi-private meetings with Victoria he frequently arrives with a poised Black woman as date/companion, offers Victoria professional compliments, then makes understated public displays of affection toward the Black date. In official public appearances as the Club’s rising Black voice he most often arrives with a young white woman on his arm—a quiet jab at the CAC, performing the “successful Black man with white trophy” narrative. Returning Characters & Additional Plot Threads Perfidia Beverly Hills Returns from Mexico harder, quieter, and more pragmatic. Deep mahogany skin that holds warmth, natural coiled or braided hair, full Negroid features, residual musk associated with darker skin. Exile has stripped away pure revolutionary romanticism. She carries new information, reconnects carefully with surviving network fragments, and begins building a cartel-backed campaign of targeted disruption aimed at the CAC while being hunted by surviving members of the French 75 for old betrayals. Willa Ferguson / Charlene Calhoun Now eighteen, college freshman. Self-possessed, politically alert, carrying hybrid features (mother’s deep-warm skin tempered by lighter contributions, looser coil of hair). Still defined by the unresolved letter and the weight of her parents’ histories. Sonny targets her for seduction because she sits at the intersection of Lockjaw’s vulnerability, Perfidia’s return, and Bob’s remaining emotional center. Bob Ferguson / Pat Calhoun / “Rocketman” Aging, still smoking, living off-grid with residual tradecraft, defined by guilt over Perfidia and fierce if flawed attachment to Willa. Victoria is assigned to seduce/recruit him into cooperation or neutralization—offering protection for his daughter and a final controlled usefulness after years of futility. This is framed as a high-value opportunity for Victoria to force recognition from the men downstairs. Three-Act Structure (20–28 chapter outline) Act I – The Asset and the Handler (Chapters 1–9) Sonny’s infiltration and bargain; assignment of Victoria; establishment of the scholarship pipeline; development of the complex non-physical seduction dynamic (compliments, pivots to praising Black women, Black private dates, white public trophy dates); Sonny’s rising public profile under tight CAC control. Act II – Ghosts of the French 75 (Chapters 10–17) Bob and Willa’s life in the two years since the original film; Perfidia’s return from Mexico; her reconnection with Willa and the old network; early mapping of a cartel-supported campaign against the CAC; Bob forced back into motion by news of her return. Act III – Crossed Lines (Chapters 18–28) Sonny’s calculated seduction of Willa; Victoria’s parallel recruitment of Bob; Perfidia’s escalating cartel-backed “revolutionary” actions against the CAC while hunted by surviving French 75 members; the three threads collide; climax in which choices, exposures, and the black case under the table force irreversible shifts; open-ended resolution in which no major character remains in the same position. Research & Stylistic Layer All character descriptions, power dynamics, and psychological motivations have been deepened with material on colorism, mulatto identity and heterosis, the Jezebel stereotype and hypersexualization of Black women, white fear of Black autonomy, body-odor and feature contrasts, code-switching, managed opposition, “segregation scholarships,” respectability politics, and the historical and contemporary machinery of racial control. The tone remains deadpan, satirical, and menacing in the register of the original film and Pynchon source material, with Christmas kitsch continuing to mask institutional horror.
