Esther, after being wrongfully convicted of her rich older husband's murder, finds herself at a private prison. There, she meets the warden, Jane Bishop, who was her roommate years ago in college. Way back then they had had an intense affair. Esther had fled as Jane's desire for her submission had stirred something disturbing within her. Now, she finds herself giving in to Jane's desires, even as the Warden decides to learn who the real murderer was--Nanette, Esther's step-daughter who had been obsessed with Esther and was now trying to get her stepmother released.
