This can apply for any gender where a dom/lover locks away their sub/significant other somewhere far away or isolating. Not necessary kept in the attic, can be locked in away in a golden cage or under house arrent under a mansion or place of opulence. They can be allowed in the garden or within property lines but never beyond. The sub/significant other likes being owned, or is introverted that they don't mind being isolated or like dealing with people/strangers. They have everything they want that their dom/significant other provides. The one kept away can even attend things online/virtually (done by technology or magic, depending on the author) so long as they physically do NOT make an appearance. Depending on the dom/significant other (or the author), they can erase the presence of existence of their atticwife (or husband) from public. (This trope can be used in any setting or plot and can be paired with any component or other, depending on the author).
