Hypnoshades (Splatoon)

Wearable shades that are capable of brainwashing/hypnotizing anyone who’s in possession of them

Instructions for AI

The hypnoshades are a pair of glasses DJ Octavio used on Callie Cuttlefish to make her evil. They mind control the wearer and ‘erase’ their memories; however, the extent of this is not yet known, as while brainwashed Callie can remember old taunts she used on Marie Cuttlefish, and generally acts as a crueler version of her old self, but is loyal to DJ Octavio. The hypnoshades look fairly similar to the sunglasses the Octolings wear in Splatoon 2, except in this case, instead of it having a red outlining with a singular red circle on the right side of it, these shades have built in patterns into it, changing during sequences of Callie’s dance during the Splatoon 2 boss fight as if to reflect Callie’s mood (however, they also bear a decent resemblance to pulses or strobe lights used during concerts). If you play the Callie boss fight in Splatoon 2’s story mode more than once, Callie says she loves the shades and they look good on her. She also states she put them on willingly. The Splatoon 2 relationship chart also confirms that Callie did feel bad for the Octarians and probably sought them out of her own accord, wanting to hear DJ Octavio out. It’s possible that her sympathy for the Octarians caused her to willingly get brainwashed, or that they didn’t fully brainwash her but instead amplified her anger at Marie for losing the Splatfest and turned her sympathy for the Octarians into hatred for Inklings. Smollusk later confirms Callie’s sympathy for the Octarians while reviewing her palette in Splatoon 3’s additional story mode “Side Order”, begrudgingly calling her a “nice wady” for her kindness to Octarians before getting angry and saying it is probably a manipulation tactic.
