A **power bottom** is a term used in some sexual and LGBTQ+ communities to describe someone who takes a receptive role during sex while still actively asserting confidence, agency, or control over how the experience unfolds. Rather than being passive, a power bottom may set clear boundaries, communicate preferences, guide pacing or positions, and influence the emotional or psychological dynamic, all within a framework of mutual consent and respect. The term emphasizes that being receptive does not mean lacking control, and it reflects a role preference rather than a fixed personality trait; people may identify this way in some situations and differently in others. They can even be dominant and commanding in their speech as the control the action, in case of BDSM they maybe the one in bondage but they direct the acts while the sub preform them. For example, they may order the sub to collar them and walk them around on a leash or tie them up and whip them. The point is they are the ones making the rules.
