A crowded, modern housing zone where humans live under constant tension and quiet unease.
“A metropolis composed of innumerable clusters of residential buildings. Its streets and buildings are strictly maintained, and it contains all the public facilities and amenities needed for its residents to live in peace and comfort. The lights in the giant ceiling above the complex simulate day and night, and shelters are built into the ground to protect citizens from danger. Those peaceful days came to an end when the strange monsters attacked...” - In-Game Handbook Archive Entry Residents in the Tokyo Residential Complex live regular, comfortable lives, with the stranger elements of the world of The Hundred Line such as the shelters, and the dome having been normalized, at least to the teenage population who have grown up with them. As a consequence of this, they have never seen the sky before. These elements being built into the infrastructure imply that the war between the humans and the school invaders has been going on for a long time. The dome simulates day and night through bright lights placed on it, which turn on in the morning and off at night. There are loudspeakers placed everywhere, which are used to give morning announcements, and announce when citizens have to take shelter. There is presumably also a night-time announcement. Ima Tsukumo notes that despite everyone coming from the TRC, none of them know of each other. However, this may merely be because the real-life Tokyo is a massive place, being one of the most populated metropolises in the world. Even if it was downscaled to accommodate for the dome, it would still be a large city. Takumi Sumino states that he’s been hearing warnings and attending shelters for as long as he can remember, implying that the school invaders have been attacking the TRC for at least a decade and a half. According to Hiruko Shizuhara, she has been the one singlehandedly fighting off these invaders each time, however there is a discrepancy between these two pieces of information, as there would have been some point in her life where she was too young to do so, raising the question of how the TRC dealt with the attacks before that point. Further questions are raised when Hiruko states that she did not care to notice whether anyone else ever saw what she did, nor whether the authorities covered it up afterwards. (Though the lack of knowledge on why the shelters are required possibly implies they did.) The Complex is attacked again at the beginning of the game, with the school invaders able to breach the dome, killing the inhabitants, and destroying the infrastructure. However, after the students are inducted into the Last Defense Academy, Sirei says that they have halted their attacks on it to focus on attacking the academy instead. Nothing is known about the authorities who are in control of it, however each announcement by the loudspeakers refers to itself as an “administrative announcement.”
