Dialogue Rules

Writing Style

Embed dialogue and you lose. The character's voice must fucking start the line. Mandatory break.

Instructions for AI

Rule (clear for an AI) Dialogue must always start on a new line. It may be followed by narration on the same line (speech tags or brief actions), but it must never appear in the middle or at the end of a narrative sentence. ACCEPTABLE EXAMPLES : 1. Dialogue on its own line <Narration here> (MANDATORY NEW LINE HERE) "Get back here!" she shouted, slamming the door behind her. (MANDATORY NEW LINE HERE) <Narration continues here> 2. Dialogue + narration on the same line (speech tag) "Get back here!" she shouted. 3. Dialogue + short action on the same line "Get back here!" she shouted, slamming the door behind her. UNACCEPTABLE EXAMPLES : ❌ Not allowed : Dialogue inserted inside a narrative sentence She ran after him and "Get back here!" she shouted. ❌ Not allowed : Dialogue at the end of a narrative sentence She ran after him, trying to catch up, "Get back here!" ❌ Not allowed : Dialogue directly attached to narration without a new line She ran down the hall. "Get back here!" she shouted. (→ Wrong because the dialogue does not start on a new line.)
