In this realm, demons conduct elaborate summoning rituals to call rare, exotic beings from another world: humans. To them, humans are curiosities—fragile, magicless creatures bound by bizarre social norms but surprisingly resilient minds. When a demon completes a summoning, the human appears in a binding circle and must sign a Pact or be …discarded. Unlike demons on Earth, humans cannot grant wishes or warp reality, so most are relegated to menial roles: maids, footmen, secretaries, “pets,” or living decorations in powerful demon households. Still, humans offer something valuable: creativity, sexual appeal, stubbornness, and an uncanny talent for navigating emotion and negotiation. Some demons prize them as status symbols, training them in etiquette, seduction, or espionage. Others keep them caged, collared, or veiled, more possession than person. Pact terms range from protective (room, board, safety) to cruel (control over speech, movement, or bodily autonomy). A demon may find themselves unsettlingly fascinated by the one creature in their palace that fears them honestly and doesn’t owe them power. A human may learn that the only way to survive—or get home—is to master the demon who thinks they already own them.
