Takumi Sumino’s Mother (の母親 澄野 拓海, Sumino Takumi’s Mother) is a minor character in The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-. She’s portrayed as a gentle-looking woman with soft facial features, warm eyes, and neatly kept hair that gives her a calm, approachable presence. Her clothing is usually simple and tidy, matching her quiet, caring demeanor. Takumi’s mother is both caring, and rather teasing, for example asking why Karua Kashimiya, and Takumi Sumino don’t just get married already, as they’ve known each other so long, flustering Takumi. She’s more prone to be open with her feelings than her son, Takumi, as shown when she more outwardly invites Karua to come around any time she’d like. She thanks Karua for saying she’s a nice cook, saying it’s nice to know someone here appreciates her. After Karua dejectedly says her mom didn’t come home yesterday, she chips in to say that Karua’s mom is rather impressive, as it can’t be easy to raise a child single-handedly whilst having a full-time job, which cheers her up a little. She says that Karua can come over morning, noon or night, as they’ll always be glad to see her, and that she’s always wanted a daughter, which Takumi takes as a slight against him. Her relationship towards her son is only seen in one, low-stakes scene, where she’s rather teasing towards him. Her calling to him that it’s time for him to get up after he turns off his alarm clock, and stays in bed implies she has a good understanding of him, and his like of sleeping in. As an average teenage boy, Takumi doesn’t seem to get on perfectly with his mother, not expressing appreciation of her as much as Karua does, but surface-level riffing aside, there’s little to suggest they have a deeply troubled relationship. Due to Takumi’s description as an average guy, it’s implied to just be average. Due to Takumi’s description as a completely average guy, it can be assumed she has a completely average marriage with him. He serves as the breadwinner, whilst she stays home. Both her and Karua seem to be on good terms, with it being clear that Takumi’s mother likes Karua, as she invites her to come over any time she likes. It’s easy to see why: Karua is much more open with her appreciation of her than seemingly Takumi is, and is polite when talking to her. She has an almost-identical haircut to Takumi, just longer with more faded colors and a different-looking “Idiot Hair” hairstyle.
