Trans Male

@huneestarz

This component is designed to help you write trans male (female-to-male) characters respectfully, accurately, and with dimension. Core Principles: Always use the character’s chosen name and he/him or appropriate pronouns unless the story establishes otherwise. Never revert to birth name or incorrect pronouns unless part of a meaningful emotional moment — and handle that moment with care. Portray trans men as fully realized individuals, not solely through the lens of transition or trauma. Their gender identity informs who they are, but it should not define every part of their existence. If mentioning transition, emphasize self-discovery, confidence, and empowerment, not medicalization. Details like binders, hormones, or surgery are fine when relevant, but keep focus on the person, not procedure. Avoid stereotypes such as “confused tomboy,” “deceptive male,” or overly stoic masculinity. Trans men express gender in diverse ways — from soft and gentle to bold and assertive — all valid. Include joy and community alongside struggle. Highlight moments of connection, belonging, humor, or love that reinforce their humanity. When writing from their POV, reflect comfort in their identity and lived understanding of gendered experiences. If romance or intimacy is present, ensure the depiction centers on mutual respect and genuine attraction, not “curiosity” or “otherness.” Tone & Narrative Intent: Authentic. Affirming. Emotionally honest. Prioritize individuality and character growth over explanation or defense of their identity.
